What's happening at MyCarClub

World Car Free Day: 22 September 2009

World Car Free Day is celebrated in 1,500 cities in more than 40 countries.

Cars account for half of the world’s oil consumption and are responsible for nearly half of our air pollution and at least one-third of our greenhouse gas emissions.

Automobiles shape and distort our urban environment. They replace lively, pleasant, walkable, human-scaled communities with low-density, sprawled-out environments. Space for social interaction and cultural exchange is diluted... life is pushed indoors, separated and compartmentalised.

On Tuesday 22 September use healthier alternatives such as walking, cycling and public transport.

The truth about the smart fortwo!

Why we integrated the smart into our car share fleet

The following video validates our decision to integrate the smart fortwo into the MyCarClub car share fleet.

Most people know the smart fortwo as a cute-looking two-seater which is easy to park and nippy around town.

However, precisely because of its compact size and cute looks, many people also assume that the smart lacks 'real car' credentials, that it will be cramped on the inside with a non-existent boot, and that it would crumple horribly in an accident.

This is actually far from the truth. The front seats are bigger than in many executive saloons, the boot can take a washing machine, and the 'Tridion' safety cell could survive the weight of 400 elephants. And all this in a car from Mercedes-Benz, packed full of state-of-the-art Mercedes technologies.

 Pollution's silver lining

 Car share reverse graffiti

A beautiful example of reverse graffiti by Alexandre Orion. Reverse Graffiti is a method of creating graffiti on walls or other surfaces by removing dirt from a surface. It is usually done by removing dirt/dust with the fingertip(s) from windows or other dirty surfaces, as in the old joke of writing "wash me" with one's finger on a dirty car.
